Axis Texas is run by Chad Wetzel, a fourth-generation, 7,000-acre farmer born and raised near Sherman, Texas. After earning his finance degree from Texas Tech, he lived in Dallas for a few years and put his education to work. He soon decided his dad had the right idea being a farmer and moved back home to help out. Chad’s passion for farming grew quickly, and he took a special interest in seed. Amazed by the differences in varieties and hybrids, and wanting to plant the most optimal seed possible for his family’s soil, he began selling seed and has done so for over 10 years.
Chad’s passion for seed and helping his customers be successful created a strong draw to the Axis Seed model. While sales reps for larger seed companies are commonly told which hybrids and varieties to sell, Axis Seed trusts in the expertise of its local Independent Regional Companies, like Axis Texas, to determine the seed types that will perform best in their local conditions. Chad is proud to bring this local expertise to his customers, and he’s especially proud of the ROI that comes with it. He recognizes that the vast majority of his customers very much enjoy what they do, but at the end of the day, it’s all about making a better life for their families. This is exactly what Chad hopes to help them do.
When not selling seed or helping on the family farm, Chad is actively involved in his local church and various ag leadership organizations, such as the Texas Corn Producers’ Board and the National Corn Growers Association and its Freedom to Operate Committee. He also makes multiple trips each year to Washington, D.C., to advocate for industry concerns with senators and representatives.
